Local children given artistic opportunity to exhibit at next year’s annual Woburn ARTBEAT art exhibition

The annual Woburn ARTBEAT sculpture exhibition, based in the grounds of Woburn Abbey, Bedfordshire, provides a stately platform for artists around the country to showcase their spectacular sculptures in magnificent surroundings. The Woburn ARTBEAT sculpture exhibition was launched on the 6th April and will be open to the public until the 31st August, presenting 80 pieces of sculpture for everyone to enjoy.

The organisers of Woburn ARTBEAT C.I.C. (Community Interest Company) will be working very closely with all the immediate schools surrounding Woburn and encouraging local school children to partake in a 6 week programme to experience art in a completely unique way. Children will be introduced to sculptures alongside natural elements for inspiration within the gardens with the focus being on a sensory experience. Colour, taste and smell will be experienced by focusing on different flowers, leaves, tree bark, herbs and wild berries. Texture is examined by touching and describing sculptures, allowing children to immerse themselves in a complete and personal relationship with art. Once the sensory experience is explored, children will be encouraged to use drawing, painting, ceramics and sculpting to illustrate their own experience at the Abbey gardens through different mediums, creating very personal and unique pieces of art in an environment where creativity is encouraged and no child is judged or graded on what they produce.  Established artists and sculptors will be involved to demonstrate and encourage the children to experiment and develop different techniques through different mediums.

A substantial selection of the artwork created by the children and elements of the development process will form part of the Woburn ARTBEAT 2013 exhibition giving local children an amazing opportunity to be part of a national art project.
Johann Bester, organiser and Creative Director of Bedford Street Gallery, Woburn, comments “We are delighted to have been able to organise such a stimulating event with Woburn Abbey and our sponsors thecentre:mk and Kimbells Freeth Solicitors. We have attracted art-lovers to the sculpture exhibition in the gardens at Woburn Abbey from all over the country and internationally and we hope that the interest and support will continue.  Art can help children to express themselves which is incredibly important, hopefully this project will inspire some creativity in children and the local community alike and we are looking forward to incorporating  the art created by children on this project into next year’s Woburn ARTBEAT exhibition.”
