Dream, Wish, Believe... The Journey to Christmas
June 2012

Christmas isn’t exactly Feng-Shui. With dead pine needles under bare feet, Christmas cards cluttering up windowsills or mantelpieces and not to mention the pile up of empty Sherry bottles that you try, and fail, to pass off as decorative design. The once-loved Christmas tree is wilting in the corner and the whole house starts to resemble a (not so) Tidy Tip by New Years Day. Christmas decorations are packed away, traditionally, by the 6th January and by February it becomes a distant memory until December when your house becomes a frilly, cluttered, Christmassy mess once again.

At thecentre:mk things run differently. The decorations were removed and carefully stored away by Tuesday 3rd January. The team have just under a week to forget about Christmas until the following Monday, when ideas start to form and the concept for Christmas 2012 is created. You could say it’s permanently Christmas for the team at thecentre:mk. The ideas were presented to the Milton Keynes Shopping Centre Association (MKSCA) and members of thecentre:mk management team on the 28th February and the winning pitch is then approved by March.
Since March thecentre:mk team have been developing the winning concept further and creating spectacular showpieces for the magical season. Loyal and new visitors come to the regional shopping destination for the celebrated Christmas event and every effort is made to make it, quite literally, bigger and better every year.

This year the Milton Keynes Citizen has been given an exclusive preview on the Christmas 2012 concept, ‘Dream, Wish, Believe’. Christmas will transform the mammoth Middleton Hall into a dream-like, fantastical wonderland centred on visitors’ hopes and wishes. ‘Dream, Wish, Believe’ will be an interactive, experiential display that allows children and adults alike to fully immerse themselves into the fantasy of Christmas wonderland.
The much-loved traditional carousel makes a feature, with Santa’s spectacular grotto even bigger and better than 2011. A talking tree of dreams will delight children and technologically interactive games make the visit especially unique. The Fairies and Pixies will collect and harvest children’s dreams and if the children believe hard enough their dreams will metamorphosis into beautiful butterflies but the journey is troubled as the cheeky Goblins will try their best to steal dreams and spoil the fun!

Melanie Beck, Head of Marketing and Communications at thecentre:mk comments “We are putting everything we possibly can into Christmas at thecentre:mk and are excited to have such an advanced concept in place already. We will soon be taking applications for the beneficiary charity for the contents of the wishing pool and we hope to sprinkle some pixie dust back into the Milton Keynes community this year. We hope that visitors will fully immerse themselves into the fantasy of Christmas and we inspire visitors to dream, wish and always believe.”
Forget the clutter, forget the stress, come to Middleton Hall and make your Christmas wishes come true, afterall it’s always Christmas at thecentre:mk.
