thecentre:mk is 19th in the Sunday Times Green Companies List 2010

For the third year running thecentre:mk has been honoured in the Sunday Times Best Green Companies list coming 19th. High levels of staff involvement and initiatives including onsite Bio-Diesel production, electric vehicles and rain water harvesting all contributed placing which is the second consecutive top 20 finish for the regional shopping centre.

The Sunday Times list highlighted that green practices including, “... a green roof area and harvesting rainwater for office toilets and on-site plants, are proof that the firm’s environmental commitments are at the heart of how it operates (79%, a top 15 score).” The list also identified the amount of staff involvement in environmental initiatives with 76% of workers knowing what the carbon footprint is, 82% know how to reduce it and 83% believe thecentre:mk’s environmental impacts are decreasing.

“This is absolutely wonderful news,” commented Robert Goodman, centre director for thecentre:mk. “Another top 20 placing highlights the consistency of effort and results generated at thecentre:mk.

Last year recycling rates of glass and polythene increased by 17% each and thecentre:mk invested more than £134,000 on green initiatives. However, it is the strength of the staff involvement which has driven our green initiatives, and this is placing is recognition of all their hard work.”
