A “Quickstep” to fitness with thecentre:mk Tea Dance

Studies have revealed that Dancing is a good low impact exercise for everyone who is tired of the gym but wants an enjoyable social workout allowing participants to burn up to 300 calories per hour. Ross Mitchell and his band will be back in Middleton Hall from 1pm – 3pm on Tuesday 18 May with a selection of classics aimed to get your toes tapping and you moving round the dance floor.

A study by the  English Amateur Dancesport Association (EADA) into the athleticism of dancesport (the official term for competitive ballroom and Latin dancing) for Dance Today, discovered that medical research shows dancesport is comparable with other sporting activities such as basketball, squash and cross country running. According to the British Journal of Sports Medicine, Dancers perform at over 80 percent of their maximum oxygen consumption level and burn at least 300 calories per hour*. thecentre:mk Tea Dance maybe more sedate than dancesport but taking part is not only a great social activity it could increase muscle tone and coordination, decrease blood pressure and help you manage your weight
